Description
This training is designed for professionals in the helping fields—including social workers, counselors, therapists, case managers, and other service providers—who work with clients impacted by trauma. While many trauma-informed approaches emphasize recognizing and minimizing harm, this course takes participants one step further by centering resilience and healing as essential outcomes of the therapeutic and support process.
Participants will explore resiliency theory as a framework for understanding the strengths and adaptive capacities that exist even in individuals who have been exposed to multiple traumatic events. Rather than focusing solely on pathology or symptom management, this course highlights how resilience can be identified, cultivated, and sustained in ways that promote long-term healing and personal growth.
Through interactive discussion, case examples, and practical application, attendees will gain tools to help clients recognize their existing strengths, develop healthier coping strategies, and build skills that foster independence and empowerment. Special attention will be given to the role of the practitioner in supporting resilience—not only by guiding conversations around trauma but also by fostering hope, encouraging agency, and nurturing environments that allow clients to thrive beyond survival.
This course will be especially valuable for intermediate learners seeking to deepen their practice with trauma-exposed populations. By shifting the lens from trauma-centered to resilience- and healing-centered care, participants will leave with fresh insights and actionable strategies they can immediately integrate into their professional work.
This presentation/course should particularly benefit those in the helping profession who are serving clients with a history of trauma.
It offers intermediate learners a different approach and level of insight to be trauma-informed but resilience/healing centered. It focuses on resiliency theory and how we can promote resilience in the clients we serve who have been exposed to multiple traumatic events.

Lead Trainer
Dr. Taavon Bazemore is a licensed clinical social worker from Baltimore, MD. Dr. Bazemore received his Master's Degree in Social Work in 2012 from Morgan State University. Mr. Bazemore has completed his Ph.D. in Human Services at Capella University with a concentration in Social and Community Services. Taavon has been working in trauma-informed but healing-centered care and practice for several years now. He offers continuing education credit barring training and coaching to professionals to address different types of trauma consumers face as well as provide services to address secondary or vicarious trauma. Dr. Bazemore offers community-based training as well as cultivating conversations between professionals and consumers to address the trauma consumers face on individual and community levels. While Dr. Bazemore is trauma-informed, most of his professional work is resilience-focused. His goal is to support the transition to healthy and positive outcomes despite exposure to adverse experiences.
