Description
The course “Cultural Intelligence and Ethical Practice in therapy” explores the fundamental principles and ethical considerations that govern mental health professionals. This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical frameworks that guide mental health professionals in their mission to support and empower individuals, families, and communities. This course will use several learning methods to support participants with exploring the complexities of ethical decision-making addressing cultural intelligence.
This course emphasizes the importance of incorporating cultural intelligence into ethical decision making. This course will empower participants to become both ethical and empathic mental health professionals who utilize cultural intelligence while practicing therapy.
This is a beginner’s level course and there are no specific prerequisites for this course. The course is open to mental health professionals, students, and individuals interested in gaining knowledge and skills related to cultural intelligence and ethical decision-making.

1. Define and explain the concepts of Ethics and cultural intelligence
2. Describe the core ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice and explain how they apply in diverse cultural contexts.
3. Comprehensive understanding and identify common issues that may arise when working with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and propose strategies for resolution.
4. Demonstrate a willingness to challenge personal biases and preconceptions that may affect ethical decision-making.
5. Advocate for cultural intelligence and ethical behavior within one’s organization or profession.
6. Demonstrate empathy and respect for individuals from different cultural backgrounds

Alexis Frederick-Bouy is a Sexologist, adjunct Professor, and Mental health Therapist.
Alexis’ educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Bloomsburg University, a Master of Arts in Community Psychology and Social Change from Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Education in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University.
She served the mental health community for over ten years focusing on family dynamics emphasizing attachment, communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and resource building. Alexis’ passion is to educate and empower individuals to live a fulfilling life by challenging survival thinking and living patterns and replacing them with thriving patterns.
Alexis is a wife and mother of two. Alexis is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
