I Love the Body that God Gave Me…

I Love the Body that God Gave Me.

I have many people in my life in search for the “perfect body.”  Whatever that means?  They look in the mirror and see a body that is hideous.  At least that is what they have convinced themselves with silly self talk about their bad “shape” or “look.”   Each year they make these ridiculous exercise goals.  You know the ones; “I will lose weight or fit into those skinny jeans.”  So for the first couple of weeks, and in some cases months, they spend an exhausting amount of energy trying to stick to these goals.  Then, when they “abandon” their goal they feel like they have missed the mark.  Which then just creates good old fashion “GUILT.”

Ask yourself who defines your beauty? Is it the media, your family, cultural background or your personal experience with weight and/or body image?  The truth is that if you don’t start by believing you are beautiful, who will.

So take a deep breath, relax and love your body.

Sounds silly but repeat this statement “I am beautiful” as much as you can throughout the day.  Ok the therapist in me is going to make a strong suggestion of a minimum of at least 5 times a day, because depending on your answer to the question asked earlier, your view of yourself may have been years in the making.

Moving back to the weight loss issue; instead of a resolution surrounding weight loss, try a lifestyle change.  Talk to a physician regarding small healthy changes that can help you live longer or better.  Then do them with the intention of balance.  Bring about growth and changes that can last a lifetime.

Remember “You are beautiful.”  Getting healthy and loving the skin you are in should be more important than getting into a pair of jeans.

I am beautiful.
